Liberia is a country in Western Africa, bordering the North Atlantic Ocean, between Cote d’Ivoire and Sierra Leone. It has a geographic coordinate of 6 30 N, 9 30 W. The country has a total land area of 96,320 sq km and a water area spanning 15,049 sq km. The coastline is 579 km and has a maritime claim of territorial sea of 200 nm.

Facing the Atlantic Ocean, the coastline is characterized by lagoons, mangrove swamps, and river-deposited sandbars; the inland grassy plateau supports limited agriculture.

Like Ghana ana Sierra Leone, the climate is classified as tropical – hot and humid ; dry winters with hot days and cool to cold nights; and wet, cloudy summers with frequent heavy showers. The terrain is mostly flat to rolling coastal plains rising to rolling plateau and low mountains in northeast.
